Simpecado

The original “simpecado” (badge worn by the members of the traditional Spanish brotherhoods during the Eastern) of the Brotherhood of the Virgin Rocío de Córdoba was commissioned by the bullfighter Antonio Cañero for the females members (adoratrices) in Spanish. The central medal of the “simpecado” budge consists of a canvas painted by Julio Romero de Torres. The cork consists of an oval oil tempered canvas depicting the famous Andalusian virgin Nuestra Señora del Rocío holding a child exactly reproducing the sculpture of the virgin in the Andalusian town of Ayamonte. . The virgin, de facing us, is wearing a white smock with golden embroidery, a blue shall and a golden rostrillo that frames her pale face. She also has a majestic golden starred crown. In her hands she is holding the baby sheppard, who is facing us with his arms open. Dressed in white smock, and also with golden embroidery and a golden crown. The virgin also has a golden sceptre in her left hand. At her feet an ivory waxing moon. The “simpecado” is a budge bearing the Latin slogan Sine Labe Concepta, or Conceived Without Sin, representing the Immaculate conception of the Virgin Mary.
