The religious paintings, a traditional Córdoba subject, had to be along the works of Romero de Torres. The painting dates from 1925.
The image of the Guardian Angel of Cordoba —the Archangel Saint Raphael— appears in a pedestal of Córdoba silverware. Iconographic elements are combined and a console taken from a drawing of Antonio del Castillo is taken. It is highly influenced by Valdés Leal and his work "La Virgen de los Plateros". The Guardian Archangel of Cordoba is represented by a female figure in a blessing gesture, the figure tilts slightly his head to a young woman wearing a mantilla which insinuates a genuflection. On the right, she offers to Saint Raphael a posy of white carnation. She is wearing a shawl which encircles her body. The naturalism of some oranges is included in the composition as a influence of his father and master Rafael Romero Barros. As a background of this notoriously baroque composition appears the Riverside, the Roman Bridge, the Calahorra and the Campo de la Verdad under a twilight sky.
Once again, it is represented the duality of love by means of two female figures totally incompatible.
While contemplating this canvas it is noticed the high influence on the same titled painting created by Acisclo Antonio Palomino. The influence is not only choosing the subject but also can be appreciated in the apparel, jewelry, the baroque position of his leg and the unusual hair tone.
