Girl with oil lamp

The painter continues the tradition on portraits in Andalusian paintings and bring us the memory of the Seville Baroque School. This feminine portrait belongs to the last period of the painter, called "Chiquitas Buenas". The model standing it is the same than in Fuensanta's painting.
Romero de Torres, when conceiving this work, he thought in the combination of circumstances that marked his art. It is a contour portrait of a young girl. The fact of being hair-dressed in the fashion style of 20's does not play down classicism to the composition. She holds an Arabic oil lamp; influence of the ambiance where the artist grew up.
The great interest for archeology that felt his father, Rafael Romero Barros led him to found the Archaeological Museum. His brother, Enrique would later replace his brother; Due to his interest in archeology the painter took on several times pieces from this museum as a decorative elements. Many of them can be recognized in the great collection located in his birth home courtyard.
