This piece from 1927 is the peculiar and very personal representation of the traditional still-life subject.
This composition is the opposite of the inanimate subject, the cold still life of inexpressive fruits and flowers; he combine the still life and the human figure. The central figure is a woman naked to her waist. She is holding some oranges with her arm and breast. The singularity of Romero de Torres is to paint the fruit as a protagonist of the painting. The composition have all the sensuality of the Flemish still lifes; Romero de Torres goes further with his original interpretation of the subject with the nude participation. In the background it appears series of archaeological pieces usually used with decorative purposes.
The pieces breathes sensuality and erotica. It was really provocative for the reactionary circles in that time.
